Physical Education (P.E)
Intent
We develop a lifelong love of sport and physical activity in all children and inspire them to become active and healthy individuals in the future.
At Palm Bay we provide: high-quality physical education that inspires all pupils to feel confident to participate and succeed in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities; opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness; opportunities to compete in sport and other activities while fostering inclusivity and kindness, understanding that ‘sport is for all’.
Implementation
We aim, through high quality lessons using the Get Set For Education scheme of work, to enable children to:
- Have access to a variety of different sports and skills through which they will progressively develop their skills
- Have personal achievement opportunities throughout the school year
- Engage in inter and intra school competition throughout the year
- Access to an exciting, broad and varied curriculum
- Build confidence to try new skills and experiences
- Develop sport specific language
- Be keen and motivated to participate in fun and engaging lessons
- Develop healthy lifestyles that last a lifetime
Impact
Through our P.E. teaching and our fantastic offer of extra-curricular sports opportunities children will:
- Feel confident to be physically active for sustained periods of time,
- Learn skills incrementally and sequentially develop the skills and competencies to excel in a broad range of physical activities,
- Engage in competitive sports and activities showing our Palm Bay values,
- Show a sense of community and inclusivity when engaging in sporting activity,
- Develop an understanding of how their body works during physical activity, including the muscles they are using,
- Understand how to lead healthy, active lives and why this is important for their future health,
- Aspire to participate in and compete in physical challenges,
- Learn the merits of teamwork - including how to support team mates, be part of a whole, to lose gracefully - celebrating others’ success.
